Volvo verses Ford
V8MoneyPit:
The other consideration is depreciation. I would hazard a guess that the Volvo will have better residuals than the Ford.

However
I quite like the look of the Volvo V50.
Okay I know it's a smaller vehicle (being essentially Focus sized), but I think it looks quite neat & tidy.
It's big enough & (presumably) comfortable, as the company seems to major on driver comfort.
My old 740 estate was marvellous in that respect & I've never heard a Traffic Officer complain about their Volvos
'Ditto' the Paramedics who have a couple as 'Fast Response Cars'
So the big question is
Does anyone have a V50 & can comment on it in anyway at all. Please

Gearbox/diff. failures are an issue with Volvo's front wheel drives according to a fellow ham who got through several, both manual and auto....

Hello there, just to say Volvo's were my passion until a year ago, (I've owned most models, classic and modern) The new V50 is great car, but my works one has had 2 gearbox's 1 ecu, a new cd stacker unit, 2 new tyres due to wheel mis-alignement from the factory!, a new volvo badge from the back as it fell off, and a couple of minor interior trim issues.
The dealership were great about fixing things and I had no porblems with them, I know this seems all doom and gloom but the after sales care was great ... can anyone say the same about ford?

Am I right in thinking the transit engine is in the mondy too, just a little tweeked here and there? If so the Transit is a fab van to drive with regards to engine power etc and mpg for it's size.
Also the Caravan Club have voted the Mondy as tow car of the year 2008.
It would be Mondy all the way for me.

--- Quote from: "beast5680" ---dont ford own volvo? :? so its the same thing :D
i prefer the look of the mondeo to be honest

Yes, they do. Alongside Land Rover, Mazda (partly), Lincoln, Aston-Martin (until Dave Richards bought it with his backers)
The Mondeo is nice, but the V50 is striking too
--- Quote from: "martha focker" ---i'v heard from somebody that they are on the exact same chassie, so ride shold be about the same

The V50 is essentially a Focus under the skin (same 'platform')
--- Quote from: "Range Rover Blues" ---Neither car will be a dissapointment but TBH I'd look at the tax implications and the cost out of your pocket.
If there's nowt between them then get the mondo, it's bigger and annonymouos, so you can leave it places.

Andy, the tax will be the deciding factor, if it's on the 'approved list' (I don't see why not, shecould have had a Mazda 6 last time, like one of her collegues)
