OOPS, Hants Road Saftey Partnership in trouble AGAIN
Niel:
In view of further creeping stupidity of 20mph speed limit I came
across the following:
Latest national figures indicate that average accident severity is far
higher in 20mph zones than in 30mph zones."
# In 20mph zones in 2006 17% of injury crashes were fatal or serious
# In 30mph zones in 2006 13% of injury crashes were fatal or serious
It would seem that the Council in Portsmouth are intent on killing off
the inhabitants

Unfortunately Neil, it doesn't say how fast the vehicle was actually travelling at. Being in a 20 or 30 zone doesn't mean that was how fast they were going. Around here (Bristol) 20 zones are cropping up all over the place and the people who you see speeding are generally the local residents :?
clbarclay:
Accident severity may be worse in a 20 zone but how do the accident freguancies compare?

I have to say in the right place I back this. Having lived in a contry where they actively enforce these limits areound schools and playgrounds and MAN are the punishments harsh. First offence gets you loads of points. Second offence is a ban. And thats 20KPH. Oddly enough they dont have the problem with kids being flattened to and from schools/playgrounds.
