Latest national figures indicate that average accident severity is far
higher in 20mph zones than in 30mph zones."

# In 20mph zones in 2006 17% of injury crashes were fatal or serious

# In 30mph zones in 2006 13% of injury crashes were fatal or serious

Unfortunately Neil, it doesn't say how fast the vehicle was actually travelling at. Being in a 20 or 30 zone doesn't mean that was how fast they were going. Around here (Bristol) 20 zones are cropping up all over the place and the people who you see speeding are generally the local residents  :?

Well if reports are right the taxi's are already ignoring then, as are the buses, it all started when a cyclist rode out infront of a bus on a Zebra crossing and got splatted.
The Police are particularly bad too, a former neighbour (transfered in from the MET) suffered a white knuckle ride with an AFO going to a shop robbery, reported after the fact so not 'urgent', 50-70 mph though the North End's residential roads with cars parked both sides, past schools etc, no lights or horns, just 'red mist', crazy!
