old wives tales that work ??

Biodiesel-Bev:
Will definately be trying the conker thing!!!
It would appear that the spiders in my house have been reproducing like rabbits.  I caught one at the top of our stairs last night, it was sat on the top step, staring at me, willing me to dare to go past it to get to the loo.  Every time I moved, it moved, if I went left it did the same!
So I caught him with my spider catcher and chucked him out of the bedroom window.  But when I turned round, there by the door was his twin brother!!! 8-[

Will go down to the woods tomorrow armed with a couple of bin liners to fill with conkers!   :)

--- Quote from: "Lord Shagg-Pyle" ---I'm a firm believer in the Old Norfolk Way of weather forecasting.

You hang a bit of seaweed out of your window.
If the weed is wet, it means it's raining.
If the weed is dry, it means it's sunny.
If the weed is moving about, it means its windy.
Simplicity in itself!

Bit like this then

In my younger years i was a gymnast @quite a respectable level, and one of the percs of the sport was some amazing blisters/tears on the palms of me hands, (spare me the jokes please im sure i would have heard them all before  )       Best cure ---- weeeeeeeeing  on them, (grim - but works)

Varoocas. Or how ever you spell it!

Banana skin applied for about a day with yellow side up. Plaster over the top to hold in place. Bobs ur uncle. My ex land lady was a nurse and her daugther had a verooca for years and nothing moved it. I told her this trick and it has never come back.

Open cuts etc.

If you get a small cut or like me in the winter the skin around your nails easily tears and opens up use super glue. It holds it together whilst it is healing and it is also poorous so air gets in and helps it heal faster.

Well burnt on food in pans.

Get some genuine coka cola and put it in the pan and bring to the boil for a few minutes and hey presto burnt on food comes clean off.  :D

I read a top tip a few years ago:

If you are cleaning a frying pan with burnt-in dirt and fat, soak it for a while in warm water with detergent, then, when nobody is looking, throw it away.
