Ideas on transporting a discovery?

Not sure how far it is as I don't know the area.

But could you not tow it? On a rope or bar? At least you could have the engine running so you would have power steering and brakes.

Other than that hire a trailer as said before, or take a look on ebay for a transport company I have done this recently.

thanks for the ideas, unfortunately I don't have a tow car for a trailer, and I think it would be too far to tow on a bar or rope as it takes 90 minutes to drive there...

Know anyone in the RAC?

If so get them to sit in the passenger seat and phone them out. With the rac it is the person not the car that is covered.
