serious wheel bearing help needed

<< < (3/3)

Hi MuddyJames

I am nowhere near Daventry sadly, but by way of reassurance........  I have just done the bearings on the rear of my Disco.

I am a complete mechanical numpty, and despite having a fight with a rounded bolt (I don't think it had been moved for 16 years!!) on the caliper, the whole process was ridiculously easy.

the bearings arent wobbling, well they are now but werent when it failed themot. they are grinding as the wheel spins. the oil looked a tad rusty too. grrr[/quote]

it'll be all that water at billing, the rear seals go then the water gets in and wrecks the brg in time. done 2 on mine . aint a bad job. let us know how ya get on . alan.....

Frankie Boy has very kindly come round today and cleaned up 1 bearing and put it all back together so it is driveable and doesnt sound nearly as bad now, although there is still a small amount of noise but doesnt sound like grinding now.

I will buy some new bearings but I will have everything crossed that the MOT passes it tomorrow. If not I will have to hope the bearings come on Wednesday and I can try and remember what Frank did and fit the outer bearing and hope that works.

I think someone may have offered help on Wednesday???? that could be awesome. I can re jig thursdays plans to get to the mot station if new bearings are in.

Just have to hope new ones arrive on time.
