serious wheel bearing help needed
muddyjames:
I have also posted this in the bar too so sorry mods but I am in deep do do up to my neck.
Does anyone live around Banbury / Daventry way who can do wheel bearings on a front wheel of a disco 1 as it failed the mot on it and I have had a go at adding more grease as they are 3 months old and I failed to get the brake drum off and now the wheel wobbles badly and I cant get the cir clip on the half shaft so undriveable to anywhere.
I am away on holiday from thursday so needs to be done before then.
£30 is up for grabs on anywone who can save my bacon and can i get new bearings from my local car supply place or do i have to mail order them in?
I so hope my bacon can be saved as I will be letting loads of people down on friday if my disco is of the road as i need to pick a cooker up and someone is staying in my caravan for 2 nights next wek as well.
Im on my knes begging here!!

Replacing a wheel bearing - this is a 300TDi CSW, but it's almost exactly the same as your Disco.

Thanks very much for that link Les.
Looking at that has confirmed I most certainly need help. That is way beyond my mechanical knowledge and as I am towing lots of trailers in thenext few weeks I need peace of mind it has been done right and not bodged by me and the wheel could fall off.
Thanks for the link.

Without sounding rude have you nbought a haynes manual because if you have it will show every step.
muddyjames:
I have bought a haynes manual. You look up wheel bearing and all it says is how to check it for an mot. I stumbled accross a blown up diagram under changing a half shaft. It says simply undo the 2 bolts holding the brake drum on.  Doesnt mention with a special tool! why do they have such wierd headed bolts?
I may go back outside and have another getting cross setion.
My main worry is I dont have the confidence to feel what I have done is right and will be forever worried the wheel will fall off down the motorway. I had the breaks go on my series landy after I changed them a few years ago. This lost what little confidence I had and it wasnt me driving the landy it was a mate. I could have killed them :(
