--- Quote from: "Range Rover Blues" ---Sorry but from what I remember of driving in the south of England you have a different highway code, there are in fact 2 breaking down lanes, one lane for Volvos and old folks in pork pie hats and the RH lane for reps, BMW drivers, white vans and all manner of other selfish so-and-so's who think their need to get anywhere is far greater than anyone elses.
--- End quote ---

Thats not far from the truth!
Went into Olympia (near Kensington for those not familiar with London) on tuesday and was driving around the North Circular and that was scary! Got further in to town and the drivers of big shiney motors did seem to give me plenty of room though!

Cheers

Dirty Gertie:
There was a discussion on the Jeremy Vine prog yesterday luchtime on the subject of Centre Lane hOGS and some stupid muppet was given airtime to justify his ridiculous habit of 'CLOGging' by saying that it was safer for him to drive in the middle lane at all times, since it "prevented anyone preparing to leave the motorway from impeding his progress, and he was not impeding anyone joining at junctions, and it is far safer than weaving from lane to lane to pass slower vehicles" hmm, yeah, great, what about all the MILES of M/way with no junction in sight???? Oh, and he INSISTED that the lanes are designated "slow" - for trucks and caravans, "cruising" - presumably for idiots like himself, and "overtaking" - I was amused when another caller told him to go to WH Smith and buy a copy of the highway code to check on the CORRECT designations!!
I regularly travel to and from Bedford down the M1, and I'm amazed at how many vehicles are nose to tail in the outside lane, whilst I'm batting along at (harrumph) MPH in the nearside lane.
Oh, and whilst I'm at it:
[rant]I wish they'd learn that the line on the slip road; is a "Give way" line, not a "feel free to barge into the traffic willy-nilly lane" if the muppet who caused the carve-up on the northbound exit of Watford Gap services on Monday morning had known that, I wouldn't have had to sit for 3 bl**dy hours in the ensuing confiture de voiture that the prat caused!!!  - driving licence from Kelloggs I presume??
[/rant]
