i am constantly receiving grief from my old chap about this, i maintain it will be finedue to displacement of air from the cab while the truck is moving forward.......but then again it doesn't take much to move it around as its only Alli tubing and hoses. i think its a much better attempt than some of the other home made snorkels i have seen. it will be thoroughly tested in 14 days! counting it down and going a bit nuts! sooo much work to do! and STILL need a trailer!

As long as all the hose clamps are done up nice and tight, there's no reason why they'd be a problem with it :D
Behind the cab is a proven design
They are just a bit noisy in the cab

Just a mad idea I've had, but could you use the waffle boards as a tailgate? You'd just need to fabricate a couple of end caps that they'd slide into from above.

hahahaha
do you mean like this?

jay, it has to be "done" for the 10 of June....then it will receive a damn good thrashing around the farm to test the limits and maby a painting session with all the people that have helped then I'm of to the B.L.R.C event on the 13Th

forgot to mention this but i need a winch

there is a dick in the B.L.R.C (who will remain nameless) who thinks i cant make it around the course because "Ive lifted it and it ll fall over" well i hate being told what i cant do and want to show him up! he is entering the winch challenge there in his stock ish 90....i want to [throw it] him off! i am pretty confident that i can beat him (points wise) just need a winch and still allot of work to do.

and yes jay, i am thinking of putting the clusters back in....bit of a step back but it does look allot better. unfortunately i have given one of the clusters away so  Will have to go to a breakers and get one, maby some door skins at the same time!

anyone want to be generous and donate some parts???

Yup, that's the way - I remember you did that earlier on but wasn't sure if you were planning to stick with it. They're a lot easier to deal with there than in the boot of a normal Disco!

noise doesn't bother me! you haven't heard my exhaust    also got my eye on a dump valve .
Jake, how long until this hybrid turbo for the d2 comes out from D44??? my dad is itching for one and i may "acquire" the monster Garrett from his disco when hes done!
i think the point made about the filter is if it gets covered in mud, i am still running the air filter in the air bin so i can just take it off and use a mushroom top if there are any problems i want to remove the big cleaner but i have no hose clips to insure the tubing is all air tight and there is a drainage thing on the air bin that must go....or at least be sealed up. only time will tell.

don't know if people are still interested but i finished making sliders....bit brutish but will hold :D not on yes as i have to drill some metal at college to attach to the sill. i have done a step by step guide but i cant be botherd to put it up yet. found the real lights and have cut up the panels to fit. and have been making rain shelters that would make ray mears himself prowed!
fingers crossed i will have drilled the holes and picked up a can of paint and a flap disk by Friday so sliders will be on then

still undersided if the rear lights look OK like that....looks better then the chequer plate ones i guess.

im in the prosess of writing up the step by step guied. not short im afrade, but im trying to do it so its all there for you, ie so you dont have to work too much out yourself. not going to be put up untill friday though i need to drill some holes at college. i dont have a drill at them moment.
there is no point in me putting up half a giude at the moment when its incompleet.

stuvvy, its maiden voyage is on the 13,14,15(yes next week!) at bircham newton. its a club event going on all weekend i think a few of them are on here and are itching to see it in action.....so am i, i am scepticle as to weather it will out perform a disco with simmilar mods there are so many things i wish i had done differentley. but we shal see. if it does i will break out the video camera so you guys can see. :afro:

stuvvy, you also need to get intouch with your inner ray mears, buy/aquire a tarp and do some chopping in your driveway!

stuvvy, it is at bircham newton construction college. next weekend starting Friday. I'm sure you would be welcome to take some photos and go around the course but as i am not an organiser i am only making assumptions.
I'm off to finish the sliders now, couldn't get the holes drilled but did get some 6mm plate to spread loads so welding it is! cant be all bad. also hopefully the rivet gun should be here today so i might (fingers crossed) get the tub done!!!!!!!!!!!!!(at last i hear you all say) may be another surprise on to nights update too ;)
until then good bye

right, yesterday started out good but then disaster struck in the form of my welder packing up! this is not good as i still need to weld stuff (duh!) it was almost like it was mocking me because i just finished the 2ND slider, sprayed it, went to  weld the other on and nothing happend.
i think the gear that turns the little wheels pulling all the wire through has had its teeth stripped! again not good! unless someone around me is going to feel very charitable and let me use there welders i don't think next week is going to happen! bit of a [!Expletive Deleted!] i know but I'm not going to stop working! "it ain't over until the fat lady sings" (don't really know what that means, but looks like its in the right place).....piscs are posted from the camera phone because i left the camera there.
both sprayed in an anthracite grey hammed finish paint and look pretty damn cool if i say so my self.

urghhhhh a long day.
got the panels on, no many rivvets on the left side but its only temporary.....and i don't care! fueltank is also in place, should be picking up some hose for it tomorrow also found out the gearbox was the problem with the welder......off tomorrow to get one.....£32.50+vat i believe. not bad seeing you get the motor and all the gubbins with it.
also getting annoyed with people taking bad photos of me! only putting these ones up to show how hot it was......if I'm wearing shorts its hot!

slider guide may be up later but if its not can people please stop asking about it, i have more important things to do at the moment
if your Lucky it will be up in 10 in the discovery forum and i will try to make it a sticky so it cant be lost among the other crap on here.

getting there. got the welder fixed, 1 slider is welded on, took a trip to halfords..... didn't hold out much hope on finding anthing usefull but i was wrong! nearly everything i need! painted the rollbar black, looks much better now you cant see the rust! the tank is all plumbed in too. there are 4 wires on the plug to the tank yet my Alli one has only 3 pickups on it...i assume one is for the fuelpump on the  V8 does anyone know which one???? got a trailer sorted too:dance:
just waiting for the latest slice of nice to arrive from Devon4x4 and the combat will begin!

got it all "done" for the BLRC weekend, bit of a rush but it was deemed acceptable. got up at 6:45 to collect the trailer at 7:30 then rolled it on down to the disco and back to my house by  9:30.......dicked about with crap until 12 and got to bircham at one :?
wasn't there for too long and people started giving it the once over, no negative comments(which made me happy).
truck worked brilliantly , few times it didn't make it up hills but that was my fault, the difflock cam out and i didn't realise.......nearly rolled it a few times too  i will be welding in that rollbar properly (its only tacked in to protect the fueltank)
now i am full of ideas on what to do next.....been looking into shunt nosing(bob nose) it for a while but now i think i just may because it looks a little odd with the bonnet longer than the bed! extra inch on the springs, defender truck springs are a must now! i thought i could make do but it rattles allot and the ride is hideous!
possibly bigger tyres as well. just to let you all know......the air intake in the truck bed does work! the sound is not that annoying(the exhaust annoyed me more!)! and mud didn't touch it!

Devon winch tray should be here tomorrow  i will have a nice rear end now :azn:

there are loads of photos but you all know what im like and i cant be botherd to put them all up so heres a few, enjoy

let me know what you think  :afro:

right, i will keep that in mind. i didn't put it on there the garage where i get it serviced did it.....they are very much a " land rover spent millions developing products so nothing needs to be changed" type place.

anyway. came home from college today and had a goodie waiting for me!
the winch tray!

its a bit nice and a bit well built....i am very tempted to put one in the front! if your into making your own stuff i would seriously recomend these as a base for your bumper!

errrm if I'm honest it worked better than i thought it would, its not that bad under speed either 8-[( [-X)!
the overall performance of it was very very good engine ran well, didn't get cross axled and i drove up a near 90degree slope backwards(swish swish)
like i say it will be fully usable when the rear springs are sorted, that is my main issue with it. i think i will get it through the mot and then do things like shunt nose and winches then we will really go to town! would also like to add that all this Ive been hearing about the x-spring pushing the back end up when going down steep slopes is a load of [!Expletive Deleted!]! i think the people that have this problem are going a wee bit too fast and/or coasting down hills!

Jake, can you thank Liz for me please,i am really happy with the tray :D might be ordering another soon ;)
