Hi there, A quick question, can a scar be tattood over ??

   Very shortened story -  I am going into hospital very soon for some major work, this will leave an approx scar of 7 inches running from chest to belly, I guess  i will leave it for a year or so to fully settle down, but as i have about 12 weeks off afterwards i can start to plan me tattoo, Was thinking of a zip type thing with some of the inner bits showing where the zipper is not fullly done up??   Cheers for any info

well you cant tattoo over scar tissue without it looking right, the only way to do it is to incorporate the scar into the design.

As said, scar tissue cant be tattoo'd over, you'd be better off waiting til the wound has healed completely, to see exactly what it looks like and then think about having something custom designed for it.


Also bear in mind that if you get a cut across an existing tattoo then the scar tissue will be whit and not keep the full colour of the tattoo, I scratched my wrist right through the middle of a tatto and now have a white line through it even after 8 months...

once the wound is fully healed a decent tattooist could tattoo over the tissue, it is difficult to tattoo over the skin as it is generally a lot tuffer, i have scars on my chest/stomach that have been tattooed on.

find either a tattooist you trust or one that i highly reccomended from someone that is quite heavily tattooed....  i would help but i am not too knowledged on tattooist around basingstoke, i might be able to find out if you want me to.

I was cut open from my Rib cage to just above my bits.
10 years on its still a good scar and looks like I have two belly buttons, a lot depends on how neat the sergeon is, some of mine has almost gone but some is still 10mm wide.It was very purple for about a year or two
See how it is in a year.
Oh and mine still herts if any one talks about it or similar things LOL
