'N' 2.5TD £1000, worth it?

(1/3) > >>

nishikigoi:
It's a known vehicle in met green, as my Disco has to go.

Will this replace it off road? (yes biased)

Is the VM engine 'that' bad? (100k)

Worth it for a grand? (good condition for age, VERY clean inside no dents)

Also it's had a few mods as it lobbed push rods until they were modified, hates cool starts in winter as the filter heater is U/S.

I need a Diesel as I make Biodiesel and am not about to feed  4L petrol, if I have to get a diesel is it worth buying and knocking out on ebay and getting a shogun or something?

CaptainColourful:
I think you will find that the 2.5 oilburner isn't any better on mileage per gallon than a 4 litre petrol, but so as long as the price is right ( and let's be honest thats cheap enough) then just check the normal things and I hope you enjoy owning it. The petrol does have a distinct advantage on the road.

As far as "go-ability" is concerned, a lot of people will agree that it will pleasantly suprise you.
The green badge isn't as supreme as some would like to think !

Bishops Finger:
Petrol 4l should give @19-22mpg 9 (roughly) diseasel @26mpg
VM's can have a bad reputation but should last well over 100k
Regular oil and coolant changes will help major issues are rods being thrown but it sounds like its been addressed on this one

The diseasels sit higher than 4l due to bigger springs

At £1k it sounds worth it......

Oh and as for off road..they are amazing even with road tyres, fit some 235/75R15 M?Ts and be very impressed

Well diesel costs me 8.7p per litre so I don't realy care what the MPG is! It's either this or look at getting a Japanese Surf etc.....

I have (for sale) a lifted 1995 300TDi ES with lots of toys running on INSA Special track tyres, very good off road the Jeep looks like its going to ground out at every bump!

Don't compare apples with oranges though mate!

Give the jeep a chance, and if you feel it's leaving you cold off road then bung a few hundred quid that way, lift it, and stick some 33s underneath
