Give the jeep a chance, and if you feel it's leaving you cold off road then bung a few hundred quid that way, lift it, and stick some 33s underneath

To stick 33's under a Cherry will cost more than a few hundred quid.....(TRy posting more on a more err knowledgable Jeep site Blue Bus)

As said buy it, enjoy it (I know folk who run Cherrys with3" lifts and diseasels on chip fat) they are very capable off road and the down hill gearing is amazing

offroading.net:
stick a set of 30" muds and a 2" budget lift and it will go anywhere, that'll cost a few hundred quid

skip:
I will second offroading.net, don't forget the disconnects (essential on an xj)

CaptainColourful:
At that price per litre forget the fuel cost ..... lift it. and get some decent wheels/tyres and when it breaks sell them off on Ebay......
