--- Quote from: "muddyjames" ---hmm yeah. Although VERY long it is an interesting read.
The firs thalf I got lost on but it all came clear later on.
The long and short of it is running on diesel /VO mix means coking up and could lead to the sump oil / VO mix combusting and running away by itself.
Running on VO only (heating engine with diesel though) is fine as there isnt a difference in combusting temperatures as you get with mixing Diesel and VO.
Have I worked this out right?

errrr..... thats about what i made of it.... i think :?
i must admit, it put me off mixing, as i tend to do more day to day short trips with a cold engine

Ditto. I have gone off mixing as well after reading that. I tend to either do very long trips with a trailer in tow or a short trip to work to re fuel or give the engine a run after being sat for a week or 2!
the ebay hunt for a veg oil kit continues!!
freeagent:
I've been mixing about 30% SVO into my diesel for around 4 years now, in my old 300Tdi 110, then in my current 300Tdi disco..
i've never had any problems like that, the only problem i had was the fuel injector leak-off hoses perished, which cost about £2 and took 5 mins to replace.
i'm running on it now, and will continue to do it.. you don't even need to pay tax on it after next weekend.
there is a lot of bulls**t and scaremongering on the web about SVO, mostly posted by people who have never tried it, or went to far and hashed it up...
