--- Quote from: "barnhill4x4" ---I have a snorkle on my disco but It is not there to allow me to drive through deep water, it is there to safeguard the engine and avoid destroying it by sucking up a load of water.
It does look good too!

Surely if you didn't traverse "deep" water you wouldn't need a snorkle ?
barnhill4x4:
Well, I have been a few places where I have got the filter soaked, not intentionally but it happens
ChrisW:
I'll second that, my snorkel is there as a precaution, not there because I need it. A few times we've been out and water is deeper than expected, without the snorkel I would have had to rebuild the engine at least once by now.
Drift:
I think this is what your trying to avoid

why do v8 owners go to the bother and hassle to have snorkels when they can only seem drive through puddles?
--- End quote ---
Somehow I think the Army would dispute that when they used the 10FC in amphiibious trials.
The 'plimsoll line' was half-way up the windscreen, & that was in the sea, not a wading tank!!!
