Do I, Don't I
freeagent:
I went from a 110 300Tdi to a #disco 300Tdi last year...
I sold my battered 1995 110 Hardtop, with 180,000 miles on it for £3000, and bought an imaculate, 1996 'N' reg Disco, with 100,000 miles on it for £2200...
I miss the 110 when we do some tough off-roading, but I like the disco, its comfy, capable, warm/ cool when needed... and now i've done few minor mods (trimmed the front bumper, fitted new rear bumper, steering protection, rock sliders and mud tyres) it'll go almost anywhere my mates 90's will go..
we don't do competitive stuff, just green lanes and weekends away.. we bought it for a trip to morocco last summer, and enjoyed every minute of it, the comfort and air-con made the trip so relaxing..
Oh, and if you get one, try to find a base model, without air-bags or electric seats... less to go wrong.. the only downside compared with a defender, is body damage can look a bit scruffy, and it will depreciate to nothing, whereas the defender will always be worth something...

Discos aren't bad, you will miss the 90 and the Disco will rot in a lot more places..... inner arches, boot floor etc etc, not as easy to work on and it will continue to lose money until its gets to £500 ish whereas the 90 will hold a much higher price.
The disco has a much better load capacity, rear passenger seating is far superior etc etc
The disco is a perfectly good greenlaner with several plus's over a 90 but at the end of the day it is no 90.....
I've had several but have always come back to a series/90 as they dont have the same appeal
personally Id go for a Rangey with a 200/300 TDI in your situation..... a far better / more luxurious motor
Cheers Steve
