Keep going all day. It is one of my topics of conversation I can bore people to sleep with!!

Witht he 2700kg trailer and with the disco (approx max weight also £2400kg im guessing) would mean you are certainly eligable for a tacho to be installed.

If it is for private use then dont worry about it. Example my caravan is 1700kg being towed by my disco. Although I go over the magic 3.5tonnes, because it is for private use I dont need to have a tacho.

Stupid really as a lorry driver could do 9 hours driving with 15 mins break, (Rules are slightly changing to this about now) he can then hop out and tow his own caravan in his own car for as long as he likes. barmmy. .

Oh dear! I didnt realise that. I figured it was the actual weight of my car plus the actual weight of my trailer! So am i LEGALLY required to get one of those now? Im a gardener so its virtually day in day out i will have my trailer with me.

DAMN RULES!!

muddyjames:
There are complex rules about builders and not needing them if they dont work further than such a distance away from thier "base". Also bus drivers who do local set routes like stage coach and school bus drivers. These kind of bus drivers in theory have a manual log of the hours being done due to the company having records of bus stop pick up's etc which say where the bus should roughly be at what time and again no further than a set distance from base.

I am not too hot with these rules as my voluntary group work all over the country so we dont bother even thinking about these rules as they wont apply to us.

Being a gardener you maybe able to be exempt from tachos as well but I wouldnt like to say yes or no.

As your disco is over a few years old you maybe able to get an analogue tacho fitted but I dont think so. advantage of an analogue tacho is it only records driving when you have a tacho card in the machine. When there is no "card" (paper version instead of a bit of plastic) it carries on recording speed etc but onto a piece of plastic which doesnt show any hours, mph etc etc.
