you cant tax it straight away as the mot takes a while to get through the system. I tried!
Had to do mine next day!. went out in it straight after taxing it online (yes i know this is perhaps slightly naughty but i dont care as ive paid for it so im gonna use it!), and got pulled over as it was still showing up as having no tax on the system in the bobbies car!
He was quite happy with me driving with no disc and with my 'just done it online officer' excuse. I'm going to print out the reciept it gives you next time just to keep as proof.

Secondly will it be legal for me to drive him home and then get a tax disc, or shall I get the garage to try and sort it for me?

Hi Mate, as a bobby I would have no issues with you taking it for an MOT as long as it is booked in and you are going there directly. You also need to have the vehicle insured. Its the same with taking it home, anyone that reports you for no tax on your way home from an MOT needs a few more crimes to work on. As lons as you are above bored you'll be fine.
These are only my opinions....

Range Rover Blues:
You can't get an MOT without pre-booking now, so the computer knows you are on your way to the test station, and where it's bing tested.

Big brother or what?

Once you have that lovely peice of paper you will need a special form from the post office, you MOT cert all shiny and new, you V5, your insuance, some money (or a spare kidney :? ) and the patience of a saint if my local post office is anyting to go by.

Untill it's been taxe the only journey you can make is to and from the test station, I don't even know if you are allowed to transport it to a place undertaking MOT repairs any more.

I always understood that you can take it for work for the MOT if it's prebooked.

I been in the post office about bringing my Dads TD5 off SORN, as the 1st April is a Sunday they can tax it from Friday 30th.

So if you get the MOT before then which you can't do without insurance to get there then you just go to the post office next Friday.
