SORN, MOT and TAX?

We have places here you can just drive in without the need to pre-book, I did it on Monday and got a pass.

same here no need to book just turn up pay your money and hope for a pass......... thats what i will be doing saturday

That is fine if the vehicle is not on a SORN. (Which is what this thread started off as being about.)
If it is on a SORN you have to be able to prove to any police who pull you over that you are using it on the road for one of the few reasons that you are allowed to on a SORN. I expect that they would just phone the garage/test centre to check if you have a vehicle booked in for an MOT, and if so what the vehicle was.
If you are taking a vehicle on a SORN to a "just turn up and get it tested" place without booking it in first and get pulled then you have no proof of using it legally on the road and will end up with the vehicle clamped at the roadside by the DVLA, getting a fine and possibly the vehicle being crushed. Until you have paid the road tax the clamp wouldn't be removed and without a MOT you couldn't pay the tax...
In short: it is best to always pre-book your MOT regardless of whether the vehicle is taxed or on a SORN.
