Front Axle
ken110:
what are you doing Man!!?? rplacing the fronxle just because the caliper bolts are stuck??? even if they were completley stuck it wouldn't take long for them to remove them. who stripped the bolts?? If it was the garage then ask them to sort it at their expense. they should know that caliper bolts need to be treated with extra care. There's no way you should have to swap the axle though
jamesledingham:
Well, the ratchet handle broke off when I used one of these

- the bolts aren't budging. The calipers are rusted to [!Expletive Deleted!] anyway by the looks of things so I think I'm best just replacing the axle.
Equicar can do me an axle for £250 delivered. Otherwise will keep an eye out on eBay - there's a few around at the moment. Delivery is the issue though!
jamesledingham:
Or...
Do I spend £600-£800 on a TDi Disco, getting 2 better axles and a better engine and scrap the rest of it and my old parts on eblag...?
markyb:
yeah sounds very expensive.
i wonder if they stripped the bolts as mine came out pretty easy yesterday had to use a star type socket.
axle seems abit excessive
jamesledingham:
yeh bolts are totally stripped.
Well, I say that - the one bolt on the drivers side is totally stripped. Am I right in thinking there are two identical bolts in each caliper? one above the other? Theother one on the drivers side seems stripped. I got fed up after that so can;t remember what the other ones were like.
