towing limits

my 130's gross train is 7000kg. ie 3500kg gross vehicle and 3500kg trailer. but as said with LR factory linked brakes it 8000kg.
My old 90 was once used to drag a 44 ton artic off the A5 at brownhills one friday afternoon as the nearest police RR was ,miles away. It was fully loaded.

i once pulled my dads 16ton lorry about 15 miles back to the depot when its engine developed a terminal oil leak. it was about 3/4 loaded at the time, so about 14 ton
got to 45 mph eventually, after about 10 minutes on a dual carriageway!
that was with a 2.25 diesel

With regard to the tacho problems, I once asked the Chief of the Wakefield traffic police this question, "I have a 3.5 tonne Transit van with a towing bracket on it, do I need a tacho?" His answer (after 20 mins of thumbing though traffic law books) was "No..but..." As muddyjames suggests it's complicated :? A 50 mile (I think) radius from home base was mentioned, and the fact that my job description did not include "driver" contributed to the "no" answer.
By the way did anybody see the pics of the VW Tourag pulling the 747 weighing about 150 tonnes :shock:

what did you actually tow it with? heavy duty rope or something?
