Tyre choice poll
SHERMAN TANK:
A rather nice balding fellow at craddocks told me that the law on the manufacture of retreads is much stricter for safety and stability. Or was that just sales talk??????
Either way he sold me Colway AT's remoulds.........and there great on and off road.
DAVE.............. :D

Due to my high mileage I stick with new tyres for my Paj, however, I had a conversation with the manager at my local tyre centre (who's married to on of my colleagues - i.e. reduced bullshit) about whether to get retreads for Em's 'Zuk which is used almost exclusively off road.
His opinion was that for off road slow speed re-treads are probably okay, but for road & motorway use he wouldn't touch them.
The difficulty is not so much the quality control of the retread process, but of guarenteeing the quality of the carcass underneath - it's not always possible to see what damage the previous owner has done.
He had fitted a set of retreads a couple of weeks previously that a customer had ordered over the internet, and was unable to put enough weights on the wheel to balance out the irregularities in the tyre. Doesn't sound too good to me...
Alaric.
diesel_boy:
proper rubber thats the only way at the end of the day a new tyre is the only way if you want to get ya boot down ive seen retreads do some wierd things beeing a truck driver ive had a few go bang on the truck but i will vote for both retreds if you a re just gunna play in the mud but not on the road its like putting 2nd hand brakes on your mrs's car !!!!! you only live once
cowboy:
I use 2 sets of wheels. I know it's a pain in the butt changing them to go off road, but as diesel boy says new tyres are safer on the road. Dave.
