ill need a bigger/better alternator can i just get one off another car if so wot i also plan on running twin battereys

Damon:
I'd be surprised if you can get an alternator to pump out enough amps to run your winch.  My Warn M6000's use 85 amps under "no load" just winding in the cable.

I would fit a 2nd battery (if you haven't already).  I use an Optima Yellow Top with 690 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps).  It's an awesome piece of kit. :)

Check your winch spec. it should recommend a minimum battery ampage.

1.6cfi alternator is a 70A unit and will drop in place of a 40A standard one.

A winch under no load should use no moe than a few amps, certainly not 85A. If yours is drawing that much offload you have a problem :)

Hmm, strange.  I must have read the Warn spec. incorrectly then?

Scroll to the bottom of the page for the spec.

Thats what it says. Still dont beleive it though, meter yours out, I'd be surprised it if using that much off load. Someone that knows more about these things should be able to say yay or nay but the 1500lb boat winches drew about 5A offload.
