Henry Webster:
--- Quote from: "smith335" ---henry, whats the wear rate like on the goodyear ATRs?
i think its down to BFGs or the GOODYEARS.
just want a good road mannered tire, and the ability to get in and out of fields when towing, and light green laning when takeing the gun dogs out.
and some thing that lasts a while.
thanks so far.

BFGs last very well, but I've never actually worn out a set personally. The Goodyear's have been on my discovery for the last five years doing about 10,000 miles a year and still have quite alot of tread on them. They're not so good off road now, but still good elsewhere.

Range Rover Blues:
--- Quote from: "smith335" ---so because my alloys are 8 inch fitted with 255/65/16
and i wanted to go to Ats (BFGs or goodyear ATRs) and i havnt seen them in 255/65/16 only 235/70/16 , would i be better going for 7 inch rims.
like range rover blues said the steering would be more positive with the 235s ,and would i be right in thinking that there would be less rolling resistance, thus meaning slightly more mpg?
thanks for your help so far.

Sounds like you got the idea, yes. If it were a Ford Escort you were running I would recomind not 'overtyring' ie not let the tread become wider than the rim, handling falls off significantly because the tyre can squish away sideways when cornering. Not the first concern of a 4x4 but yes, a wider rim had distinct adantages. The only penalty as such may (I say MAY) be when you run at very low pressures.
