smith335:
i have at the moment 255/65/16 tires fitted on 8 inch rims to my td5 disco.

will 235/70/16 fit on the 8inch wide rims ?
i know its not safe to do it the other way round ie 255/65/16 on 7 inch wide rims.
well thats what the hand book says, but its nearly time for new boots for the disco so i thought i would go for some thing slimer, and there seems to be more choice in the 235/70/16 size.

looking at ATs. goodyear ,bfgoodrich,or the grabber ats. not sure whos best, and who has the best road manners, and off road abillitys.

any ideas

Guardian.:
ONE OF OURS HAS 265/70/16 ON STANDARD LAND ALLOYS THAT I THINK ARE ONLY 7 INCHES, AND THEY ARE FINE. SO 235 ON AN 8 INCH RIM WILL BE SOUND, THATS THE SIZE I REPLACED.

Henry Webster:
In terms of tyres - I have Goodyear's ATR which is excellent in the dry on road and is a pretty good general off road all rounder.

The BFGoodrich AT is I think slightly better on wet Tarmac (v. predictable), but not quite as good in the dry.  Again an excellent all rounder off road.

I don't have any experience with the General Grabber, but I would also look at the Matador Izzarda, which will be the control tyre for the British Off Road Championship next year and is well priced to boot!

smith335:
thanks for the advice chaps.
whats the  wear rates like on the good years atrs?
i had some good year mtrs on my old defender a few years back and they were a good tire,i hope the atrs wear as well.

whats your thoughts?

smith335:
henry, whats the wear rate like on the goodyear ATRs?

i think its down to BFGs or the GOODYEARS.

just want a good road mannered tire, and the ability to get in and out of fields when towing, and light green laning when takeing the gun dogs out.
and some thing that lasts a while.

thanks so far.
