sky fitters shoddy workmanship

If I had done it I would have come through on the top corner of the door frame, what the fitter has done that for is anyones guess.

Better still is where the cable comes through the other side, it just hangs down to the skirting board, not pinned in the corner or anything, and he's not left enough free length for me to tack it into the corner. so i'll have to either pin it down in the middle of the wall or rip it out and start all over again.

I'm still not a happy bunny :x  but I was really throwing my toys out of the pram earlier :evil:  :)

Reminds me of the time the LNB on the end of my dish dropped off because the engineer who installed it had used a rawl plug to hold it on.  another engineer came round to fix it only to tape the blasted thing on and it then fell off 2-3 hours later.  Sky wanted to charge me £65 or £75 quid both times to fix it.  Needless to say after getting to a supervisor on the phone they decided not to charge and I eventually had someone out who fixed it properly.

Bring back the traditional 'apprenticeship' schemes of old. I spent hours learning the colour codes of telephony cable - and can still remember it now !. We also spent hours cleating cables (phone & pyro) onto wooden boards - you could not use a straight edge, had to do it all by 'eye', and if the 'shop uncle' didn't like it - he ripped it all out and you started again.

Even now, after 20 years in the business I still won't leave a job until I'm satisfied that its the neatest, best looking install possible.

These fitters must have some sort of front! I couldn't go into someones house and do a poor job, i just wouldn't dare. An english mans home is his castle afterall.  

Apparentlly the fitter lives fairly local to me, the wife phoned him today so i'm waiting on him to contact me now :roll:  we'll see if he does or not.

I'll post back what happens, if anything.

one of my regular customers is a Sky man and he certainly doesnt have 10+ jobs to do a day! in fact hes normally in the bar by half 3/4!

but i do know hes a nice enough bloke and is probably one of Skys 'better' fitters.


But NTL really did a crap job when they came round... apart from them leaving the big hole in the wall.. they had me dampen down the grass so they could dig it up and hide the cable under there. then we have this big brown plastic cover that is siliconed to the wall to hide the cable that comes up through the bush (Quite litterly through the bush too).  Once inside they wanted to leave with the very heavy filing cabnet out in the middle of the floor! and i dont think they appreciated me telling them to move it back!
