Is my new number plate legal?

The local coppa's are having a clampdown round here (Swansea) :cry:  :cry:  as the speed cameras are unable to read the plates.Stopped my misses the other day coz she has VICKY G instead of V10KYG no points no warnings just told her to put proper plates on  :lol:  :lol:

the plate makers name is for motorbike plates, so if you have the diddy plates they can try and doo the plate maker.  I don't know any plate makers that make the diddy plate put there name on... whould you if it was illigal ? :lol:

We make road legal plates where I work and to do so we have to be registered with the DVLA, we also have to check and record certain details of entitlement i.e V5 and a matching proof of ID like a passport or driving licence. As for whats written at the bottom of the plate that depends on who they are being sold to, if we sell them to joe public then we have to have our business name and post code on, if we sell them to a motor trader then they have to either show the same entitlements and proof of id to us or become registered with the DVLA as a supplier (think it costs around £40) then being a supplier they must have their name and post code on the plates but in turn they are then the ones who are required to check and record their customers details.  The whole system changed a couple of years ago and within the motor industry has created huge confusion, mainly due to the vagueness of the information that has been made available.

This thing of putting the makers name on the bottom of the plate seems  bit odd.
It is more than likely for free advertising, but a conspiracy theorist may add "Its another way of the authorities to check on you".
For anyone who may be interested (and I don't blame you if you aren't), these are the rules relating to plates,according to the good books of
The Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 and The Road Vehicles (registration and Licensing) Regulations 1971.

Motor vehicles first registered on or after 1.1.73 must carry a registration mark which conforms to the following:
1) A British Standard specification number
2) It must be legible and permanently marked
3) the numbers and letters must be black, vertical and easily distiguishable
4)They must be exhibited on a plate ( a nice wedgewood one perhaps?)
5) that consists of a reflective material (rules out the wedgewood)
6) It must be illuminated in the hours of darkness
7) with a white background on the front and yellow on the rear

Wow, I'm really excited by that! NOT!

It makes no mention of the makers/dealers name. Cheap advertising?

Where does it say the illuminaton must come from the vehicle the plate is fitted to ?? LOL
