Is my new number plate legal?

I dropped into Halfrauds yesterday to get a new plate - the old one is becoming unreadable. I was mildly amused to have to 'prove my entitlement' to buy one, seems a bit contradictory to the law 'requiring me to have one'. I don't think the excuse "Oh sorry officer, it turns out I'm not entitled to buy a plate..." would work.

Anyhow, long story short; the new plate does not have on it the maker and phone number - I thought all new plates had to have that?

I'm not bothered, I'm just going to claim I had it made when I got the vehicle as a spare...

Plus I had an amusing in the shop - going to pay for said plate a woman stopped me and said "Can you help me or are you serving someone else?", "Er no, I'm a customer" I replied. "Well how the £$%% was I to know" she shot back. Some people... :roll:

its bloody stupid, we cant sell a number plate without seeing driving licens(or similar) and V5. Like the bloke who is buying a plate is gonna be a criminal. The criminals take em off a parked car, like so many of our customers find out.

You can get plates(show plates) without all that guff, by stating they are for display purposes only.

I tried to get a plate for displaying my callsign in my side windows, but was politely told to get to france. Bit annoyed, but i guess i can just make my own

For the past few days, theres been a guy sat outside the estate where my office is - making plates 'while you wait' from the back of a Mondeo estate........I bet he doesn't want to see proof of ownership, inside leg measurement, mothers maiden name etc !

And.......the Police Station is 200yrds further down the road  :?

think you only have to show the post code of where the plate was made but not sure :?  :?  :?
