How would I be able to tell if this has already been done? Mine sometimes seems to lack a bit of pull in 5th especially under load, not too bad without any trailler. Can get 70/80 out of it then.

If its still there, theres a lable on the transfer box.

I'll bet yours is standard, 70-80 unloaded is normal with 1.4 gearing, no supprises about it when towing!

I had a 1.2T-box in my 110 and it went really well, it did however have a huge allisport intercooler and chip tho (and was a TD5).

If you want better road speed or lower revs for current road speed then do the change (or get it done for you) and then tweek the engine a bit too :D The cost is about £450-500+vat to get it done though, so not the cheapest of mods.

If you do a lot of miles the £450-£500 shouldn't take long to save with current deisel prices.  Having just put a 200Tdi engine in my 90 to replece the 2.5NA I am now thinking about the Disco transfer box as I seem to have plenty of power but fuel consumption is just as bad as it was before.

Other option is an overdrive, I know I can't fit a Series one but weren't there some Range Rovers fitted with overdrive?  And GKN do a bolt on goodie too.

Youll not make the money back, it saves you 1-2mpg, which even in LR terms is naff all so itll take many many hundreds of thousands of miles to recoup the cost, the overdrive option is even worse as it costs double and only returns the same saving as the gearing change.
