hi there all just been reading the new landrover owner mag and come across this bit saying ANOTHER SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE GEARS IN THE TRANSFER BOX.THE HIGHER RANGE GEARS FROM A DISCO ARE A LOWER RATIO THAN THOSE FITTED TO A DEFENDER ,MEANING THAT TOP SPEED ON ROAD CAN BE INCREASED WITH OUT ALTERING THE LOW RANGE GEARING. anyone know how much would b looking at to get that done sick of plodding along not bothered going just going home when u ar staving and tried starts getting to u
Xtremeteam:
right,to do that you need to fit a discovery transfer box which is a 1.2 ratio as your current Tbox will be a 1.4 ratio, now by doing this it will increase the highrange gearing but low box is the same across the range in all the Tbox's,only thing with doing this is if you have 750's or 235/85/16 or bigger tyres you may find that your motor will struggle to pull 5th,

Wind the boost up to 1 bar and tweak the pump... will go quite well then!
Removing the large centre silencer makes a difference, not huge.... but noticeable...
There are other things too..... :D
