rangie ones dont fit either as they were designed for the 4 speed box   ,

if you are running 205/16's in a defender with  tdi then fitting a disco Tbox will give it the same gearing as a disco (tyres & gear ratios) so should do disco MPG,i was planning on fitting my transferbox today but having just got up i think ill be doing it another day

Thanks for that guys.  The bit I can't work out is that last winter I went up to Wales with a mate in his Discovery.  Cost me £90 in diesel for the 2.5 NA and him £60 in diesel for his Disco.  By my calculations that is £30 saved over about 400 miles.  So £500 quid should only take 6,666.66 miles to payback.

OK it's a bit of a crude calculation but 6K or so miles looks like the payoff point.

By the way Mike, thanks for the help with the airfilter.  In then end I found one from a Peugot 307 diesel in a skip and it mounts perfectly on the air conditioning mounts on top of the timing belt cover.  Popped in a K+N filter and trunked it over to the turbo.  It's taking in air from the coldside of the engine and it runs a treat.  Now I'm looking for the right size pipework to make up a snorkel for it.

I'll bet you the cost of 6666.66 miles of diesel that you dont save THAT much, gearing and tyres are only half the story, aerodynamics, weight, driving style, road, condiitons etc all dictate MPG and i know from experience that although the Q gears make the drive either faster or more plesant they dont increase MPG by a massive ammount. :)
