'On Roaders' Welcome or Not?!?!?!?

<< < (8/9) > >>

pilgrim:
Thanks for all of those that make us non-4x4 owners (yet) welcome.

My Smart Roadster has never (intentionally) strayed far from the tarmac, and I can't imagine it ever will. I've still got to take the plunge and buy something bigger, but am uncertain what to get (i.e. SWMBO doesn't want a Defender). I use Mud Club as a source of information as to what to look out for.

My off-roading experience is limited to a day at Langdale Quest, which is what got me interested in the first place, and the odd bash round farms when I was much younger. We all have to start somewhere.

Initially, although I love cars, I admit that I was not a huge fan of 4x4s, because I had experienced the unfortunate minority "green-laning" on footpaths and bridleways and damaging the paths and trails I regularly use in supervising and assessing duke of edinburgh's award groups.

Through Mud Club, my eyes have been opened to a community of people who drive 4x4s and care about the environment around them. Mud Club has shown to me that it is the minority who abuse green-laning rights, and that the majority are against such abuse. As someone who walks and hikes regularly, I now see the gas guzzling 4x4s in another light, and enjoy the light hearted banter that ensues every time I meet laners - I've not yet met another mud-clubber, but have pointed several drivers to the Club as a great source of information and advice (and bad jokes). I don't know if any of them are here.

We all have a right to enjoy the countryside. We all have a right to enjoy 4x4s. We all have a right to enjoy Mud Club.

When I joined, I didn't have a 4x4. I didn't have a goddam'd car at all. But I used it as a source of information until I found the right one for me.

Who are we to judge what a 4x4 should be used for? Mine hasn't gone off road yet, but does that instantly mean my membership here should be terminated (probobly make a lot of people happy!).

This club is for everyone, from Thrasher with 3 V. Expensive off roaders, to matty with a Ford Focus RC Car

I have seen this post elsewhere of late.

The original questioner knows my reply and it seems the general view of the members here makes it pointless me indulging in lots of copy & pasting :)

Whilst it is impossible imho to enforce such membership restrictions there may soon be a place where his views may be better understood.

Yep, the internet is a great thing, and folk are more than welcome in setting up their own sites, for the perpetuation of their own insightfull views.

However, anyone out there that digs on Mud-Clubs sorta view of life is more than welcome to post here as well. 8)

cheers
