I have worked in the motor trade for past 14 years and a free retest is within 7 days and down to individal garage

The mot retest SHOULD be carried out by the orginal Mot Tester if they are not available you SHOULD be made aware that it needs a full test.

If vehicle has only failed certain items eg tyres and retested within 24 hours only partial test required

YES believe it or not it is down to that tester if previously advised items were advised only/boarder line fail then he can fail them.

I think that the particular garage are just being AWKWARD and UNHELPFUL and i would take it somewhere else next year if i were you

Hope this helps you if not you can call VOSA - 0870 33 00 444

I think I'm right in saying that the amount charged for a retest is defined by the garage, not VOSA. This has always been the case and probably still is. The only difference is that the test has to take the full 45 minutes which ties up the bay and the testers time.

:? I used to do MOT's and you where always told that if in doubt on an item you should aways pass and advise besides which what did they fail the swivels on e.g excessive play or excessive oil leak?? cheers :?

Wanderer:
The price for an MOT set by the government is the maximum price they can charge. They could do them for nowt if they wanted to.

The new computer system is a load of tosh. I know of vehicles being logged on to the computer while they aren't even in the garage eating up the computer time while they were doing another job.

Another garage where the records said it was a petrol and it had a diesel engine. The parked a Volvo next to the vehicle being tested and put the sensor on the Volvo's exhaust instead of the hybrid.
