What do ya need to look out for when buying a sammy?

How should it feel when you drive etc... noises, handling yada. If I find one local in good nick i want to know :idea: :twisted:

rust on bodywork i ain't really worried about, I'd do a crash course in welding and cut out and put in new plates in. Also why you need a good paint finish? I could do a rivet and hand paint job like LR's ;)

check behind the plastic arches and skirts if possible, the obv ones like blue smoke etc still count, rides a fair bit bumpy to say the least, if its your first 4x4 it'll sound strange as you get the drivetrain noise, if it doesnt tick over well the carbs probably nacked (notorious problem on 413's) give it a rock from side to side and listen if the shox sound ok.

there will be quite a bit of play in the steering thats normal and can be adjusted slightly, other than that its a fun car to own and drive.

just make sure you check the rear inner arches there a nightmare and rust straight down the seam

there fun to drive and own its just crap japanese metal its a case of do you spend more on a jimny or get a sammy get it right and still have money for mods for the price you'd get a jimny for?

can you layer and sand smooth hammerite?

And give me a break down plz how roughly how much a sammy would cost to get semi decent modifed with LPG and complete bodywork dip and spray.

See if we can't get a comparison and idea :)

dunno mate mine cost Ã‚Â£600 with 5mth t+t had to do a bit of welding on the rear arch but not too bad.

unsure of the lpg conversion

why not just paint it by hand using the paint they use on buses goes on and looks ok with a brush or roller cant think of the name but it would be a dam site cheaper than taking it to a spray shop.

then you can lift suspension fit wider wheels and fit mt's for a pretty capable off roader

You can smooth & polish Hammerite but you have to be very gentle with the rubbing down, & give it time to fully harden before you start

some people want silly money- there was the same one advertised for Ã‚Â£4k in a certain 4x4 mag (doubt anyone called!)

well jimny's coming down to like 1700 and got better spec and rougly the same mileage.

Just wondering why i would choose a sammy over a jimny now, god life is a bitch.

Basically, if you can afford a Jimny then get one as they are a lot better build quality. I had a Samurai but the Jimny was out of my price range so I bought a P Reg SWB Vitara (Ã‚Â£800) and it's been great so far.

I paid Ã‚Â£ 400.... 1 months tax, 6 months test, decent tyres all round (which I replaced with MT's) very tidy car all in all and no rot.... I destroyed the clutch it was fine and I destroyed the exhaust....

Just had a look and to be honest that will probably go for between Ã‚Â£800 & Ã‚Â£950 as it is a very nice example.

Hi there, I know I have banged on about this before but if you want an off roader go for the Sammy, I have one. If you want an every day car that is capable off road but not as capable as a Sammy get a Vitara. I had one a few years ago. A 100 mile journey in a Sammy would frighten the life out of you, a Vitara though it still not a Vectra / Escourt it will still do the journey with some comfort. When you get to your journeys' end you can then go YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAA off road with it and then drive home. Hope this has helped and not confused the issue.

If i was the seller i would be wanting silly money for it- it looks VERY tidy and my mate bought that exact hardtop from a dealership and it cost Ã‚Â£600 alone!

Plus as the auction has 4 days to go it will beat Ã‚Â£700 in bids i recon
