Transfer Boxes
Henry Webster:
--- Quote from: "Wolfie" ---
Am I right that the ordinary axle is still a 4 pin? If so it's still not a bad price and could add a Tomcat strengthening kit to it.

Or don't worry, all extra unsprung weight - potentially causes problems in its own right.

Porny:
Axle has the same internals as the Wolf axle, just not the strengthened casing
Unsprung weight….
Always a compromise between strength and thus reliability and weight.
In all honesty, a standard 110 Td5 axle ‘should’ be ok for your usage… and at that price isn’t a bad buy.

Wolfie:
Cheers guys.
Just want to go collect it, and all the other stuff I've just bought, but the seller is away for a couple of days.
Then it's just a matter of fitting parts to the car, and fitting a holiday to Italy in, and I'll be ready to break her again.
Regards
Wolfie
Henry Webster:
Are you going to do all that before Castle O'er?
H
Wolfie:
Probably not :)
I have to do the wing, if only so I can drive her about on the roads a bit cos it's fun. I would like to do the transfer box, although from memory it probably isn't quite as important for Castle O'er. She could also really do with some new Hockey Stick bushes as there was a huge amount of movement in the when we jacked her up.
The rear axle isn't too urgent as there isn't much wrong with the Salisbury, just a bit of a leak out of the pinion oil seal, so that can wait. Getting a prop made in the time available may be an issue.
The week of dangling on bits of string off the side of Italian mountains will reduce the amount of car fettling that we can do, but it needs to be done.
I also don't think I'll have time to rewire the boat, or even go for a float.
Regards
Wolfie
