Transfer Boxes
Wolfie:
I did consider axle ratio changes, but there would be a few problems there. Currently the car has a Salisbury, and I'm not sure if a 4.11 is available. I will sometime soon be fitting a Wolf axle and as it's P38A based the Ashcroft 4.11 won't fit. The price of a couple of 4.11 R&Ps is also quite a lot more than a decent transfer box even if it was possible to fit one to the rear axle.
The change in ratio is about the same either way, and I don't feel that there would be any additional benefit in lowering the low range ratio.
Although the linkages are different as standard, I think from looking at the workshop manual that it will be possible to use the existing arrangement. Can anyone confirm whether this is true?
Cheers

Also if you carry spare diffs then all those need to be modified too, and they are more expensive to replace when you break one.
Guess who's been through this before!
I have put a lower set of Tfer box gears in the Borg Warner that I run and I run 225 or 205 tyres, but it could still do with being a bit lower for something like the Scottish Hillrally.
I guess I just need more power!
Wolfie - if you are interested in rebuilding your current box, I'll look out those gears.

Wolfie:
Well, I'll know if a 1.6 transfer box is a good move at Castle O'er. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4646026474
Might even have time to fit the "bit of an animal" as well http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4642153812

Porny:
Is that a wolf rear axle or just a Td5 110" jobbie....
Basically the same axle internally, but the wolf version has reinforcing sections underneath and a heavier duty diff pan AFAIK (plus a few other bits and pieces)....
The normal late 110" axle is a toned done, civilianised one…
And you do know you’ll need a new/modified prop?

Wolfie:
Now you've gone and sowed the seeds of doubt  I'm not certain, but he has other axles for sale that are not described as Wolf, so I'm hopeful.
Am I right that the ordinary axle is still a 4 pin? If so it's still not a bad price and could add a Tomcat strengthening kit to it.
Yes, I know a new prop will be needed, but was planning on a visit to Dave Mac anyway to get some props made.
regards
Wolfie
