vibration problem

<< < (2/4) > >>

denviks:
well had an interesting day. still waiting to hear back from the garage that fitted my front discs as to what they are gonna do.    but i didnt waist this morning. i had the front hubs apart and the needle roller bearings are fine........

so i then checked the tyres by moving my spare one on each corner with no change. i then looked at the steering bar that the steering damper is connected to....it was bent downwards , so i put the jack under it and straightened it out. the steering feels loads better now. this might have been the vibrations i felt at speed....?

so i am slowly getting there    :D  :D

Budgie:
That may well have been the high speed vibration problem as the tracking will have been out.
May be worth getting the tracking checked if there is any vibration still there, just to be sure.

denviks:
garage just called back....and it aint good.....well i dont think it is     ...now bearing in mind that yesterday they said the front right has a high spot on the disc. well apparently they have contacted the disc manufacturer and they have said to send the disc back to be checked. the garage are going to claim labour costs. so get this.....this means me paying 60 pounds labour again and they will credit it back to me in 6 weeks........  urrrrr.......so if i did that im wondering if i would just hear back that " no the discs were ok " or " they were misplaced ".......

im really not happy with this arrangement considering they told me one of the discs had a problem.  :?

so im now sat here wondering what to do?

any advice guys?

Range Rover Blues:
That sounds crap, but it's not uncommon.

You paid the garage to fit them?  then your contract is with the garage, no-one else.  It's up to them to sort it out, contact trading standards.

Did you pay by credit car? if so contact them, you are protected byt he consumer credit act

take the bloody disk off yourself and save the labour

have a good look at it anyway, are there rough patches in the surface? it'sa not uncommon for cast iron disks to be porous or sift under the surface, when you wear through the machined face the soft surface doeasn't wear as quickly because it shrinks away from the pads, so it become a high spot and causes the pedal bump you have fealt recently.

denviks:
i did use a garage to fit the discs. they supplied them too as i was in a mad rush at the time   ...i normally do most things myself ( or have a go ) but as i was in a rush i paid them alot of money to do the job. i really wish i hadnt bothered now. i have been on the phone to the manager again and i asked him if i remove the discs and give them back will they refund the price of the disc and they said they would so this maybe another option for me to take.

i have also spoken to a mate who works with metal for a living. he said that when they are made from cheap metal then you can have a carbon in 1 peice of the disc, when it gets hot it doesnt shrink back to the same level as the rest of the disc.....so hense the high spot......does that sound right? is that what you just said mate     ...

thanks for the reply, just trying to makes sceance of it all....i thought they were a very good garage , thats why i paid them for their time and effort.......wish i had just not gone on holiday and fitted them myself now
