vibration problem
Range Rover Blues:
Your mate's right, it's cheap metal.
Budgie:
How long ago were the discs fitted?
Cos they were effectivly under contract to supply & fit a set of brake discs. You paid them for the parts & labour, in good faith, and now one of the parts has been found to be sub-standard or faulty.
They should be replacing that part without charging you extra!
If YOU remove the disc(s) and give them back then they still have the labour cost in their till and you may as well have just handed that money over to them and driven off without them touching the vehicle!
I would be having another word with the manager and/or Trading Standards, providing the discs were fitted recently.

hi mate....the discs were fitted at the begining of march. . i know what you are saying about the labour. i was thinking about it most of last night to be honest, just sort of weighing up my options.
i think its either going to mean me loosing out either way or a long legal battle  ....why cant life be easy.
if i let them take the discs off and charge me 60 pounds for the pleasure i can see whats going to happen. they will send the discs back to manufacturer, they will say nope these discs are ok and put them in the bin. the garage win and the disc company win but im out of pocket buy 120 pounds for 2x labour costs. so i definatly aint going down that route,
Budgie:
What I find hard to understand with this is that; if the garage has said that THEY found a high spot on the disc that THEY supplied, why does it need to be sent away for confirmation and is your Disco going to be off the road until the results come back?
Seem a very strange way of working for a £20 part, especially something that is so safety related!!
Although saying that, it could be the fact that nothing has shown up for nearly two months and they could argue that it's to do with your driving style or something daft like that. :(
I think I'm with you on removing & returning the defective disc and getting a new one yourself if they insist on going down this route as it'll probably work out cheaper. Just remember this if you have to use them again in the future.
Quite often, if I don't have time to do the work then I'll supply the parts to the garage and get them to fit them. Normally works out cheaper and I know where the parts came from.

thanks for the reply again mate..... i think i might end up just doing the discs myself and then taking them back for a refund. i have had a result today on another front though. about time i got lucky. i have always thought that the pulling of the disco below 30mph and the vibration over 50 mph might have been 2 seperate things. but after having the wheels balanced at a majour NATIONAL tyre and exhaust place i thought i had eliminated this from my list. urm well maybe not. i had all 4 done again today at a different company and the results were shocking to say the least. i watched them do it and they showed me the results. here they are for you to look at. these results are wheels straight off the vehicle and on to the machine. this is how much they were out by.
N/S/F out 35g
N/S/R out 120g
O/S/f out 70g
O/S/R out 30g
spare out 45g
these were done by the other garage on monday. so as you can see they were along way out. after having them done by the new garage today i took the truck out on to the motorway for a test run. wow she is almost smooth now. i still have a tiny vibration now but no where near as bad. i am now going to re examine the props.
all i need to do then is sort out the braking problem,
