vibration problem
denviks:
hi all. i have a bit of a strange problem.i will try and explain it without trying to sound like a plank
the first part of the problem is i have a vibration for 50mph upwards. its doesnt come in until i hit 50ish. it gets worse the faster i travel. first thing i thought was wheel balance. i have had them all done and its still there. so i then checked my wheel bearings. i had play in the 9-3 oclock positions and the 12=6oclock postions on front left wheel and rear left wheel. i niped these up and checked again and the play has gone all the way around. so i know know it aint wheel bearings or swivel bearings..
nect thing i checked was props. all the uj's are tight and lubed. i do have a tiny, when i say tiny i do mean it bit of play in one uj on the front. but i am thinking this would be a constant vibration......not like the one i have now....feels like an unbalanced wheel.
i have checked pretty much everything i can think of with no joy.
now i also have another problem which could be linked. as i come down from 30mph i can feel the truck pulsate.....i hold a steady break peddle and it feels like the brakes are on....off....on.....off..... i had the brake discs changed about 3 months ago on the front. i have been back into the garage that did them and they have run a few tests but so far cant say if they are to blame. they are now talking to the manufacturer to see what they say. could a warped brake disc cause this sort of vibration aswell?
im sort of all out of ideas now.....anyone think of other things to check?heres a list of things i have checked
transfere oil level
rear and front props
wheel bearings
swivel bearings
cv joints
rotated front and rear tyres.
ball joints on steering.
cheers guys n girls
Budgie:
If your Disco is post chassis No: JA032850 then there are roller bearings in the inside of the front stub axle that the CV joint runs. I had one break up and it was the cause of a vibration I had at around 55mph, so that could be another idea for you.
denviks:
thanks mate......thats on the list for checking tomorrow.....
discoman:
a warped tyre even if you have had a tyre ballanced and it is warped it will still vibrate
denviks:
thanks mate....i will add that to my list of things to check. might put the spare on and run it up the motorway x4....
