wheel nuts

Lucy1978:
Have got pics somewhere of me repairing the damage done when my real wheel came off in the desert in Jordan, It was lucky I had some spare wheel studs/nuts with me as the they got chewed by the wheel as it left the car, along with breaking the brake cylinder and bending the back plate.

Lesson learnt, ALWAYS CHECK YOUR NUTS!

Yes it can be harrowing, I was towing the car trailer with a lightweight on it the other year. After having it parked up for the week in a yard, I was 20 miles down the road and noticed one tyre waiving at me (no i didn't check them before I set off   )

Some muppet had loosened the nuts on one wheel while it was parked up.

Luckily I was a couple of miles from a scrappy and managed to get some studs and a wheel with a tyre to fit the trailer, but very worrying as within 30 mins I would have been on the motorway, the holes on the wheel and the studs were all well worn to say the least

i have seen the damage and replaced a number of studs, nuts, wheels and hubs due to loose wheel nuts when working in a garage

sat morning was time to torque the wheel nuts of 60 Scania units  :x  :x  hated it especialy if it was raining

TechnoTurkey:
I had a wheel damn near come off my 109" last year after a bit of off roading, was driving down a track after leaving Tom's farm and wondered why my steering had gone a bit funny, further inspection revealed that I was down to two nuts both only about 1 turn on!

Lostboy:
One morning when I had a customer presentation to make I discovered a flat tyre - so in best suit and tie rushed changing the wheel and tore off to catch up on time. Got off the end of the dual carriageway in which I'd done 70 down into slow moving traffic and kept hearing this 'thump thump thump..."

I'd forgotten to tighten the wheel nuts in my rush...
