I think the RR has more actual space, but 'first-timers'  tend to prefer the side-opening door
Foor space is half as much again as a Disco, but is the same at the roof line, due to the sloping upper tail-gate

Don't wish to throw a spanner in the works but I have owned 11 Landrovers in the past including series 1, 2 & 3s. I have owned a lightweight and a Range Rover and my current Landrover, a series 1 V8 Discovery was chosen because....................................I like Discoveries. Most of the members of the Birmingham branch of Mud club also own Discoverys and aren't 1st time owners, so how does that work then?????????

TimM:
The Disco is cheap, and there are a lot more of them about, they might not have been around for as long, but you see a lot more of them about than either Range ROvers or Defenders.

They also fit the middle ground between the two off road, they are only a nats whisker behind the defender off road, but are not as wide as the Range Rover so are (probably) better off road.

More Discos = More Mud-Club members with discos = more posts.

Range Rover Blues:
All of the above, there are more of them around as they were sold to fill the gap between RRC and Defender, a true family car.  That's why there are more TDis to choose from, as well as more cars to choose from full stop.  I think the lower costs of a good second hand one also allows the current owners more leaway to modyfy (bend) them without worrying about the value of the car.

Personally I don't like the S1 Disco, I think it looks like a school bus from the back and it's got a lot more weight up top which is a handicap off-road.  Yes they are narower but only by an inch or so, they are longer but have a shorter boot floor :?

You just have to  look at the lineup for a greenlaning day to see how popular the Disco is, it's very rare to see another RRC, untill I get home :D
