Disco vs RR
waveydavey:
How's that work then?
If you look at the number of topics and number of posts on the Disco and Range Rover Forums the Disco has 4-5times as many despite the car/model/whatever you call it being about 1/4 of the age.
So how does that work then? Are Range Rovers more reliable, do the owners know more and not need to ask for help or are Disco owners just more freindly?

without sounding nasty, Disco's are usually brought as a 1st proper 4x4 so people have more questions, where as RR's are brough tby people that have had 4x4's before.. obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but next time you se a disco driver get talking and ask him/her about their car history, then do the same with an RR driver..(not counting P38 and newer RR's)

the reason for my disco was that most rangr rovers are petrol v8, there are the 2.4, 2.5 diesels. most people prefer them when they are offroaders, whereas the disco's the majority are the td's so they are a bit more economical than the v8's. so cheaper to potter around in.

Personally I wanted a Range Rover 'Classic' (ie; it's first incarnation) when I sold my 90V8-CS.
Sadly SWMBO didn't like them, but she'd got her own car so to me it shouldn't matter what she thought (oh how wrong I was  )
The problem I had was finding a good/mint 'Soft-Dash' (the very last models) Tdi manual RR
All I saw at the time were either rough, or not worthy of considering, so SWMBO talked me into a Discovery (against my wishes)
Now I have atoned for my sins & drive a 110CSW :D

I agree - more people will buy a disco on a whim without knowing much about Landrovers - It's only when the bug bites and you realise how much car you get for your money with a classic RR that you MUST have one
They make great second cars which means fuel really isn't too much of an issue - after all one Landy is never enough!
