running problem>>HELP
clairedave:
3.9v8 rangie broke down, misfiring 2 weeks ago, thrasher sent new AFM,which was fitted this evening, ran fine for 20 minutes, apart from white smoke?which cleared only when engine revved.Once engine was hot, became very lumpy and did not want to run again!
Also AFM burnt out, this vehicle has had a full service ,new leads, plugs etc,i am now puzzled why engine doesnt run,be grateful for any ideas, sggestions, advice apart from scrapping it of course!!dave

Sounds like water getting into the cylinders
maybe head gasket or possibly something worse

cheers for that !! getting more and more fed up with this problem!!oh well see what happens.
lrmike:
Fuel injector sticking? high feul pressure? It may run OK cold like that, but poorly as it heats up. Coolant in the cylanders is also possible, especially due to the white smoke. A good coolant pressure test, plugs out, then crank it should reveal where if it is.
PLUGS OUT or the engine will hydrolock if there is coolant getting in there!
blackbob:
best to do a compression test
remove all the plugs and use a compression tester
think halfortds do one or try e bay
also try running it with the rad cap off and see if it has air bubbles in the coolant at tickover these are signs of a blown head gasket
