Diff Bearings!

<< < (2/4) > >>

LANDYTIM:
Nah, only the first set of diff bearings.

I bought the landy as a big boys toy and have been changing the bits and pieces but these just died. The oil in the axle was brand new as it was changed when the rear bearings and stub axles were changed. Is it hard to change these or just a case of knocking the old ones of the input gear then the new ones on?

I belive there are two sets in the case?

Inner and outer?

i have just been down this road.to change the pinion bearings is quite a job without the specialist tools and proper manual.they need to be preloaded and the pinion height is also set at the same time.

i bought a s/h diff with (so far so good pinion bearings).

LANDYTIM:
thats not what i wanted to hear

I have two diff cases both with [!Expletive Deleted!] bearings and wanted to change these so i also had a spare!

Who/how much will it cost for it to be done and who can do it?

Cheers

cheaper to buy a s/h diff.i phoned all the landy specialists near to me only to find that they will only sell recon diffs.

quite a shame really as i have the complete instructions to do this job correctly.

you need the specialist tools and a block that one sits on to put the correct shim in after you have pulled the two pinion bearings to the correct preload.there are about 17 different thickness of shim.

then you need to set the pinion height (the way that it meshes withe the crownwheel).

then you need to set the backlash.

from my experience of this so far,a diff in pieces is not a very complicated strip down and rebuild, but you need the tools.

coming to think of it does anyone know where to get service tools

lrt-54-505
lrt-54-506
lrt-54-503 setting block

or the equivalent items

LANDYTIM:
I have all the parts for the job....

[!Expletive Deleted!] case, new bearings all that lot.

how much for someone to put it together?
