Diff Bearings!

<< < (3/4) > >>

LANDYTIM:
Got bored with the idea of re-building the diff. Paid £50 for a diff and casing that had only been on a vehicle for 6 months.

Can anyone tell me why they make both 10 and 24 spline diffs and half shaft...??

Cheers

The pinion height only needs to be checked if the large pinion taper roller bearing is replaced, non of the other bearings affect this measurement.
Ive replaced both sets in mine, and the new bearings were exactly the same as the old ones, the heights were cock on, and needed no adjustment of the pinion height.(maybe I was lucky, but Im guessing they rarely differ)
The other adjustments are easy to do with a dial gauge and a spring balance, no real rocket science. give it a try on an old diff, at least when you can make the measurement on an old worn out diff youll be happy to carry out the checks on a good 'un.

Ive put on the second hand diff....

No clunks when rounding sharp corners....

Drives really well.......

Then I hit 50mph and there is a vibrating noise coming from underneath me!

The diff lock doesnt come off when u wack the lever over either, it stays on for a while and then the light goes out!

Suggestions Please!
