Diff Bearings!
Budgie:
With the vibration, can you give a little more info.
Where does it sound like its coming from, front/rear of transmission, can you feel anything through the steering?
Did you tighten the propshaft bolts up on the handbrake drum?
Propshaft U/Js need replacing/greasing.
Propshaft centre spline worn.
Diff flange not tight enough.
With the Difflock, if there is tention on the gear when you release the difflock then it wont dis-engauge until the tention is released, sometimes you have to reverse a little to get it to come off. I don't think it's anything to worry about. My Disco does it all the time.
LANDYTIM:
The vibration sounds like it is coming from the rear. Behind the transmission. I had to drive it a short distance with the half shafts out. It didnt make a noise then! Its definately from the rear though!

sounds like your newer diff is not as it seems.
is there any up or down or left to right play on the diff flange.
make sure the diff flange bolt is tightened to 130 nm.
check rear prop ujs for wear.
if not then its back to the diff again

LANDYTIM:
all prop UJ's are fine. I need to go and check the diff flange bolt but have to borrow a tourque wrench first!
