Rover 25 TD VERY low in power

(1/3) > >>

vtrdaz:
Anyone any ideas?
The car is extremely sluugish , no warning lamps up.
Can't really hear the turbo whizzing when you're going along (used to be quite a prominant noise)
Theres no black smoke like you's expect if the turbo was u/s or  air filter blocked.
Does anybody know if this engine has some sort of boost protection unit whereby if the turbo was u/s , the fuel supply was cut down to prevent engine damage?

Cheers
Darren

Xtremeteam:
Air flow meter i think if not a burst hose cos AFAIK its the same engine as whats used in some freebies & the above is a common problem

H:
I'd guess at some sort of leak in the intake after the turbo so its spooling up but not compressing anythign as its leaking out so not really working hard so there would be next to no noise.

Split intercooler pipes are very common on these....

If pre T reg - if you feel the need for more power once fixed, my mate can chip them!! - and they go 'very' well :D

If it's not pumping out any smoke from the exhaust, try putting some welly down, and listen for a "PISHHHH" sort of sound.  If you do hear such a thing, it could be a pressure hose with a hole in it.  Remember to check the hose all around, as they can sometimes blow a hole in the most unexpected areas.

Also I suggest that you check the pressure release valve.  If that is stuck open, then I would think that no pressure boost is being built up.
