Funnily enough, with manuals at least I prefer the 300Tdi.  I find you can stick it in gear and forget about the gearbox for most of the day, whereas with the TD5 I have to work it up and down the gears more (in the Disco at least;  it's a long time since I've driven a Defender TD5.)

I could leave the 110 TD5 in gear and more or less forget about it, but that went out the window when I put 35" Tyres on it  :D

Richard, I'd probably go for a 110csw 300tdi if I were you. Personally I love the 300 engine & purely from a depreciation point of view there's nothing to match them at the mo. I had one from Dransfields in Stocksbridge a couple of years ago, kept it for over a year & sold it for £400 more than I bought it for!!

Agree with an overdrive, although you could also look at Ashcroft's alternative gears for the transfer box. Similar result, but you don't have the extra link in the chain of an overdrive (o/d breaks = no drive).

Over drive is better as you can switch it off when towing. Otherwise you may struggle with a BWBOW and higher gear ratios.

dont see an FC listed on there
