Which Do I Buy?

Wel you've already chosen the wheel base, 110 meets your needs.

But I vote TD5, biased got one. ECU is not that complex and the engine isn't that different from a TDi. The wire throttle pedal has 3 sets of voltage levels used to check pedal position so can put up with a fair bit of mud and water.

TD5 has more power/torque so better for towing. Has anti stall in low range (can be stalled by sloppy clutch control.)

But would recommend an overdrive.

Nah, just slap some bigger tyres on it...

I'd go for the 110 - you tow a BWSOW, which is likely to be a much more stable prospect with the 110.

As far as TDi / TD5 go, it's really down to how much you want to spend now, and in the future.
If you can find a low mileage TDi 110CSW, with a full dealer history, then it is likely to be worth every penny.
However, these are few and far between - don't be tempted to risk a non-service history vehicle.

Have you "had a go" in both engine variants in the same body? This is the best test - which you prefer to drive. If possible, try to tow your 'van with both. I think the torque delivery is slightly better in the TD5, and it can be chipped to improve this as well.

Agree with an overdrive, although you could also look at Ashcroft's alternative gears for the transfer box. Similar result, but you don't have the extra link in the chain of an overdrive (o/d breaks = no drive).

Hope this all helps. Shame S50RAT's not a V8 Auto - I'd soon help move the transaction along...

Cheers

Ben

No probs, there's 5, one for each week day and a hybrid for playing with at the weekend
