Lost drive and busted diffs!

I broke Big Blue yesterday.
I have a hole in the front axle, somethings burst out. Maybe a tooth or something
Does it sound like a diff or a half shaft's gone?
Look here to see the hole.
Also, whilst stuck i lost drive to the back wheels.
I dont remember any sound though.
Does this sound like my transfer box?
Or could it be something simpler
Any idea's??

Look in my photos (slab common) to see the hole.

looking at the hole - its gotta be the diff

not sure about the back end though

I had two pins let o which smashed the carrier and caused a similar hole. Well two of them actuallyl

could be the centre diff - try jacking up the back end of the motor and spinnin the wheels to check.

with the back lifted you can spin the one rear wheel and see if the other rotates in the opposite direction - if it does then your rear diff is ok

A friend of mine had this happen, turned out he had done BOTH diffs. His back one went first the extra strain made the front go as well.

Replacement back axel and another front diff.

You can weld the hole up when the diff is out.

The pins are an integral part of the diff assembly. Mine parted company and went in the crown and pinion which then spat them out of the back of the diff. One at a time as I lost drive initially but got it back again. Then it went a second time.

With the hole in our front diff and then losing drive on the rear I'd think something else has let go as well. Centre diff or the rear diff.

Normally you'll get drive again with one diff having failed. Although it's not advisable to do much running in case the broken parts jam the damaged diff up completely.
Removing the prop and half shafts would make it safeish to drive.

A very useful tip - When welding the diff hole up - do it from the inside , not the outside.  easier to repair/ clean and see.
 

 and keep the amps down as diff pans are very thin - otherwise you 'll do what a mate done a blew a hole in the pan the size of a 2p piece when welding up a pin hole!

from the sound of it the front diff has jumped ship,when you weld it do it on the outside & fit a bit o flat bar bent round to give a bit more protection,

the back could be a shaft which takes all of 10 min to check by pullin the shafts if its not them could be the diff but as it hasnt made itself known it may be something in the Tbox,,


you have tried driving it with the difflock in eh jake??

I try'd to drive it just after.
It would'nt move on flat ground with the diff lock on/off or high/low

I drove for 30 secs before i killed it.
We were only on the site for 20mins before it died.  :lol:
