Dislocation Cones - Standard Height Springs
« on: September 09, 2007, 13:53:40 »
I was talking to someone last night who, like me, has a 300 tdi. He does quite a bit of off roading and is running on heavy duty standard height springs. He surprised me when he said that he had popped a spring on a number of occasions whilst on offroad courses and was considering fitting dislocation cones.

Is it unusual to fit dislocation cones on standard height springs? As someone who is about to change tired springs and shockers for standard height heavy duty ones, is it worth me fitting dislocation cones whilst everything is 'off'? I would rather do it for peace of mind if there's any chance of me popping a spring whilst offroad.

If the dampers are standard length then its unlikiely to pop out, i've never had one disloctae on the VM (britpart HD and standard length procomps). If running +2 dampers then it is much more likely do dislocate.

I know several people who have popped out springs, on standard height 90's, and disco's.... all using standard springs, and shocks..... it seems the rubber bushes allow a little too much drop... just enough to dislocate a spring...... either fit cones, or a couple of jubillee clips around the top.... should be adequate if you're not doing serious offroading....
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!
